“Because of the tender mercy of our God with which the Sunrise from on High shall visit us, to shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1:78 NAS)
Sunrise, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization, was founded with the mandate to bring restoration (body, soul and spirit) to those who struggle with life-limiting addictions, compulsions and childhood hurts. This is being accomplished by the provision of ongoing support through weekly support groups, seminars, and Biblical materials that train and equip leaders to minister to those who live under the tyranny of addictions and addictive behaviors.
In these trying times many Christians are trying to walk as children of the light, but are failing to produce the fruit of that light. Multitudes are living under the tyranny of addictions and addictive behaviors. Trying to forget “what lies behind” (Phil. 3:13) by ignoring the past instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to search and reveal the innermost parts of the heart, they stay stuck and unable to walk as lights in a darkened world.
The Sunrise goal is to help the saints step into the power and authority of the resurrection life of Jesus (Phil. 3:10) by dealing with the root issues of why they medicate with alcohol, drugs and other pain relievers. This ministry deals with the reasons why people fall into the pit of addiction and includes those elements that bring true freedom: repentance, confession and forgiveness.
We rightly celebrate salvation as a free gift but we have not understood that we are to grow up in it. Positionally we are perfect in Christ and seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), born of incorruptible seed (1 Peter 1:23) with our spirits made alive in Jesus. However we did not receive new bodies or souls. Most of us have not fully appropriated the good news of our salvation and often we are not conscious of anything bad in our hearts. Secret sins, hidden motives, negative emotions, unforgiveness, etc. can block us in our walk with Christ and only He can bring them to the light when we sincerely give Him our lives. In Sunrise our aim is to allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and bring to the surface anything that hinders our life in Christ.
The mission of Sunrise is to bring God’s restoring love and power to those who are in an idolatrous relationship with a substance, person, or process. The mission is accomplished in the following ways:
- Sunrise Support Groups
- “Kingdom Now” Seminars
- Leadership Training
- Production of Biblical materials
- Prison and Jail Ministry
